R.I.P lil cuz
A 15-year-old boy died in a rollover Thursday morning while driving his parents' car on a highway near his hometown of Carberry, RCMP said.
Brandon RCMP Staff Sgt. Mike Zens said Rylin Mark Buck, who is too young to obtain a licence to legally drive on his own, took the keys to his mom's 1999 Monte Carlo without his parents' knowledge.
The rollover happened around 6 a.m. Thursday on Provincial Road 351, about five kilometres east of Carberry. Mounties don't know why Buck took the car. He was the lone occupant.
Zens did not know if the teen's parents were home at the time or at work.
Investigators believe the car went onto the gravel shoulder and the driver over-corrected his steering, causing it to lose control and roll.
Buck was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the car, which rolled through a ditch and collided with trees in a pasture.
Buck was rushed to hospital in Carberry, where he was pronounced dead after arrival. He died of head injuries, RCMP said.
"Speed is certainly one of the major contributing factors in the crash," Zens said.
